Gothic Chair by A Roux

American Gothic Revival Mahogany Side chair attributed to A. Roux.
This chair was owned by a Gothic collector who was a personal friend of Lee B Anderson, the premier Gothic Revival collector. Mr Anderson\'s best pieces are being sold Jan 26th at Sotheby\'s N.Y.
This chair was purchased from Mr Anderson in 1996
This chair is illustrated in Howe & Warren, \"The Gothic Revival Style in America\" The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, 1976.

Meeks Salesman Sofa

A Rare & Important American Salesman Sample or Child\'s Sofa
by J & J W Meeks NY circa 1840. The sofa is made of Mahogany & Mahogany Veneer, & maintains its original finish, which has been polished over some time ago. There have been two full size sofa\'s on the market, identical in form to this piece which bear the label of J & J W Meeks.. The Meeks firm was most prolific & there furniture is in major American Museums. There is shrinkage on the front apron. The upholstery is contemporary. Please note the doll on the sofa to give you an idea of the scale.

Phyfe Am. Classical Chairs-6

An Important set of 6 Mahogany & Mahogany Veneer chairs made by Duncan Phyfe New York circa 1830.. This set was part of the classical furnishings that were assembled by Page Talbott in the 1980's for the NJ Governor\'s mansion called Drumthwacket.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art opened an exhibit of Phyfe Furniture, Dec 20 2011, & there is an identical chair in the exhibit to this set. That chair is owned by Glorianna Gibbons a descendent of Duncan Phyfe. Her chair is part of the set of 16 lotus- back chairs that descended in the family of Eliza Phyfe Vail. Ms, Gibbons chair is part of that set of 16, & is plate 49 in the catalog to the show, & is the last image shown below.
The chairs have been professionally repaired and french polished

An Important & rare 19th Century classical mahogany dresser bearing the early & rare label of Meeks and Sons Manufacturers 15 & 45 Broad Street, New York. The piece is in absolutely original condition maintaining its original finish with very minor veneer damage. Mirror and hardware are all original. This paper label predates the later J&JW Meeks label, which was their most productive era.
